A stolen New Orleans EMS ambulance crashed into another vehicle in Slidell on Thursday night after a police pursuit, authorities said.
The crash happened at the intersection of Pearl Acres Road and Gause Boulevard, officials said. The stolen ambulance, taken from New Orleans East, struck an SUV that was moving through the intersection on a green light.
Emergency crews extricated the driver and passenger from the SUV and rushed them to University Medical Center for treatment. Their condition is unknown.
The New Orleans EMS said in a statement that the ambulance was unoccupied at the time it was stolen from the 5900 block of Read Boulevard.
The St Tammany Fire District #1, which responded to the scene with police, says the driver of the stolen ambulance was taken into custody. Police have not released the suspect’s identity.
