Man arrested after stealing ambulance from Vanderbilt

Officials with El Paso police said a stolen ambulance crashed in central El Paso after leading DPS troopers on a pursuit Tuesday morning.

Officials with El Paso Fire said one of their ambulances was stolen from Del Sol ER around 8 a.m.

The person who stole the ambulance led El Paso police and DPS troopers on a chase.

The ambulance crashed on US 54 at Altura by Gateway North.

Fire officials said the suspect was not a patient at the hospital.

Fire officials said they are investigating to find out how the suspect was able to gain access to the ambulance and how they were able to drive away with it.

No injuries were reported.

All lanes in that area are closed.

Fire officials said policy changes have been since a similar incident in 2017 but said they are investigating this case as every case is different.
