 A wild police chase overnight involving a stolen ambulance ended with a crash.

This morning, at 3:25 a.m., Irvington police received reports that multiple police jurisdictions were in pursuit of a stolen ambulance that had been taken in New Rochelle.

The driver of the stolen ambulance reportedly rammed police vehicles while attempting to evade capture, according to authorities. With the police chase nearing the village, Irvington police officers closely monitored the pursuit and staged themselves on South Broadway near Dows Lane.

The stolen ambulance entered the Village of Irvington on Broadway traveling south. Irvington police followed behind the pursuing police vehicles. The suspect driving the stolen ambulance failed to negotiate the curve on South Broadway nearing Dows Lane (known as Reeds Hill) and lost control, striking a utility pole and rolling over before coming to rest.

Irvington police officers along with New Rochelle police officers and other agencies took the suspect into custody.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation by the Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The Irvington Fire Department responded to the scene to assist. Broadway was closed to traffic this morning prior to being reopened in a limited capacity. Utility crews remained on scene to make emergency repairs to the pole and wires.
