Man arrested after stealing ambulance from Vanderbilt

Authorities arrested a man after an ambulance was stolen Thursday from the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

UPDATE (1/7/22) – The driver of the stolen ambulance has been identified as Steven David Gary, a 55 year old with no listed fixed address. After being transported to Carroll Hospital Center as a precaution, he was taken to Carroll County Central Booking and faces multiple charges, including theft and both 1rst and 2nd degree assault.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the ambulance was taken around 12:14 p.m. from the hospital. Authorities said the ambulance hit a Maryland state trooper’s vehicle as well as a Carroll County sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle on Maryland Route 32 before stopping near the Gamber and Community Fire Co. on Niner Road.

The Baltimore County Fire Department said the stolen ambulance was from the Franklin Fire Station after paramedics transported a patient to Carroll Hospital Center.

The suspect was taken into custody. He was not the original patient from the Baltimore County ambulance. He was taken to Carroll Hospital Center to be evaluated. Charges are pending.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
