Man arrested after stealing ambulance from Vanderbilt

UPDATE (OCTOBER 2, 2019: 9:43 p.m.):

According to the Anmoore Volunteer Fire Department, at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday they received a call seeking medical attention.

Officials said that an ambulance from the station and the Clarksburg Police Department responded to the scene take the patient for a mental evaluation.

Once the ambulance was in route, the patient became violent with EMT’s, placing one of them in a chokehold, according to officials. The paramedic in control of the ambulance stopped and went to the rear of the vehicle to help.

According to officials, The patient continued to fight both officials until they were able to get away from him and exit the ambulance. Officials said that the patient then took control of the ambulance and drove off.

The chase ended on Dale Avenue in Clarksburg. The suspect was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m, according 911 officials.

Officials said that during the chase, the suspect hit multiple power lines on Washington Avenue, causing a power outage. Mon Power is responding to the scene.

The suspect’s name has not been released at this time. The EMT and paramedic were taken to UHC to be treated for minor injuries.

According to officials, the ambulance has been totaled.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – A man is in custody after a police chase involving an ambulance in Harrison County on Wednesday evening, according to 911 officials.

Officials said that the ambulance belonged to Anmoore EMS and the suspect was being transported to UHC, when the ambulance stopped, the suspect stole the ambulance near the Route 98 and South Chestnut area.

The chase ended on Dale Avenue in Clarksburg. The suspect was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m, according 911 officials.

Officials said that during the chase, the suspect hit multiple power lines on Washington Avenue, causing a power outage. Mon Power is responding to the scene.

The suspect’s name has not been released at this time. No injuries were reported during the chase.

The Clarksburg Police Department responded to the chase and are investigating the incident.
