A Worcester man is accused of stealing an ambulance and driving it to a city hospital.

Police were called Thursday evening to Oriol Drive in Worcester for a report of an ambulance that had just been stolen.

Paramedics told officers they responded to an ambulance call at the address. When they went back to the place where they left their ambulance, the vehicle was gone, police said.

The stolen ambulance was then found in front of UMass Memorial. The driver, Bruce Monroe, 50, was arrested and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and furnishing a false name to a police officer.

Police said Monroe gave no legitimate reason for taking the ambulance.
