2/14/24 Salem, VA – Ambulance Stolen From LewisGale Medical Center After Unloading A Patient – Police Pulled The Ambulance Over And Took The Suspect Into Custody

 A man has been arrested for the theft of a Roanoke City ambulance from LewisGale Medical Center in Salem Tuesday night.

The ambulance was stolen around 9:30 p.m. from the ambulance bay at the hospital, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS Chief David Hoback. He said paramedics had just unloaded a patient when a man climbed into the ambulance and drove off.

A Salem Police officer spotted the ambulance about three minutes later, pulled the driver over and took him into custody, according to Salem Police. Jon Debord of Vinton is charged with felony eluding and grand larceny.

No injuries or property damage were reported.
