A Southampton man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing an ambulance from Doylestown Hospital and driving it several miles before being stopped by police in Chalfont Borough.
Peter Geng, 51, of the 100 block of Dungan Road, is charged with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor counts of unauthorized use of a car and disorderly conduct, by Doylestown Township Police.
Police said the incident occurred at about 3:16 a.m. May 27, 2026 at Doylestown Hospital, 595 W. State St., when officers were dispatched for a report of a stolen ambulance belonging to Acute Care Medical Transports Inc.
According to the affidavit, the ambulance, identified as Unit 147, had just left the hospital grounds when Central Bucks Regional Police located the vehicle on North Main Street in Chalfont. Police conducted a traffic stop and detained the sole occupant, identified as Geng, police said.
When Doylestown Township police arrived, officers took custody of Geng. Before being placed in a patrol vehicle, police alleged Geng remarked, “Although I stole an ambulance, it doesn’t mean a damn thing.”
Investigators later interviewed the ambulance driver, who told police he and his partner were preparing to transport Geng from the hospital to another facility. The EMT said Geng was being wheeled toward the ambulance on a gurney when he suddenly got up, ran from the hospital vestibule, entered the driver’s seat of the running ambulance and drove away without permission.
Police said the stolen vehicle was a 2018 Ford ambulance valued at about $150,000.
Following the incident, Geng was transported to Doylestown Township Police headquarters and later taken to Central Bucks Regional Police for processing.
