An Illinois man was arrested in Cameron Monday morning for stealing an ambulance.

According to the Milam County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), an Allegiance Mobile Health ambulance was reported stolen just before 5 a.m. Monday morning. The sheriff’s office and Cameron Police Department (CPD) responded.

Dispatch told authorities a man at a local hotel called for an ambulance due to a mental health issue. Upon the ambulance’s arrival, the man jumped in and drove off.

On a short chase that eventually went off-road, MCSO deputies tracked the ambulance to the 2200 block of CR 203 Loop. The suspect eventually crashed into a tree and deputies placed him under arrest.

MCSO identified the suspect as Grant Saline, 30, of Illinois. He was checked for injuries and taken to the Milam County Jail.

Saline is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Against a Peace Officer, Evading Arrest in Vehicle, and Criminal Mischief. He is also facing additional charges from CPD for Cameron Police for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Restraint. MCSO said more charges could come.
